Finding the Character Workshop
PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE
This workshop is intended to guide the participants in how to develop a character from a script. It will be a very practical approach to creating a character by utilising the information available from the script and then over laying this with the actor’s own creativity which will be led by workshop improvisation. Kate will be drawing on her own professional training from the Q Theatre (Sydney) and experience she has gained over the years on the stage.
She will be using Chekhov’s play ‘The Cherry Orchard’ and each participant will select a particular character they wish to work on over the four week period. In the final week there will then be a fifth session where each participant will perform a short monologue as their created character to the public.
Participants will need to read ‘The Cherry Orchard’ prior to the first session and have made a shortlist of a few or a final choice of which character they would like to work on.
Copies of the script will be available from the DTC office from the 5th September. Please use this copy so that all participants are working from the same translation.
Please wear comfortable leggings/trousers/shorts and loose tops.
